Traditionally known as the dreaded "Tax Day" the date by which Americans that earn income must file their income tax documents, today it was known as the day for the great American Tea Party. The Tea Parties that took place across America today were in response to recent moves on the US government's part that indicate a move from a free market capitalist society toward nationalization in areas that have previously been off limits to the US government. Recently, banks have been shut down, "bailed out" and otherwise come more deeply under control of the US government. The automobile industry has gone through similar intervention by the US government. Throughout our history, the government has never thwarted free market to this degree. Traditionally when privately held businesses fail, they just fail and the free market works to fill in the gaps with more successful businesses. Some banks have not needed or wanted the "bail out" money and have attempted to give it back. However, the US government will not allow the banks to give the money back. So is the US government "bailing out" the banks, or gaining unprecedented control of them. Many Americans have seen this as an aggressive act that is unnecessary and harmful for our country. Many Americans have seen this as a move toward redistribution of wealth to pay for these tremendously expensive bailouts and other social programs, and they see this as a trend toward socialism at great risk to the liberties we have enjoyed from the birth of this great country that God has blessed so much.
Today, all across America, citizens of very diverse backgrounds have come together in their cities to be heard. I had the responsibility and privilege to take part at the Tea Party in Columbus Georgia in front of our court house. The following pictures tell a story much better than I can.
As these Tea Parties were being planned by regular every day Americans, much of the media said that the people who were to gather at these Tea Parties were extremists, enraged and bitter, Neo-Nazis, members of secret militias, terrorists, bigots, racists, etc. That is not the group I saw gathered in Columbus. I saw a very diverse group of people who behaved in a very non threatening manner, all taking part together as they chose. I saw no rage or bitterness or any expressions of bigotry or racism. There was no disorderly conduct of any kind. Just a group of people who truly love America and want what is best for America and Americans.
May God Bless this great land of ours!!!
